Arnett Critical Thinking Entrance Examination (CTEE) is a UNIQUE examination. This entrance level examination was designed for students entering the nursing program. It helps to determine if the student is a good critical thinker based on everyday issues a high school graduate could think thru. This test does not test any nursing content. To be a good critical thinker does not mean you have to be a good multiple choice test taker. The free response gives the student the opportunity to show how their brain works. It is the student’s thought process which determines if they are a critical thinker. The entrance exam will give you a base line to compare your students development as a critical thinker through the nursing program.

About the Test

This test is a FREE RESPONSE test using the Partial Credit Model. All test questions have an ability level assigned from the Item Response Theory model by RASCH. This test does not use the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) format. The student must enter the desired response/action to the question with no prompts. Questions can have multiple correct answers. This maximizes the students ability to think critically without being prompted or guided to a response. This eliminates any guessing and you get a true picture of the students knowledge level and retention of information as well as their thought process. The questions in CTEE are keyed to the following areas: Critical Thinking Competencies, Partial Credit Summary, and Blooms Taxonomy. The student is evaluated in these areas.

The Reports

In addition to the student reports the school will also receive two additional reports: School Summary Report and Executive Summary Report. The school summary report includes an analysis of the following areas: Critical Thinking Competencies, Partial Credit Summary, and Blooms Taxonomy. The executive summary report will include: Student name, ability level, partial credit, critical thinking, Bloom's Taxonomy.
