Are You CAT Wise?

In 1994 nursing moved to Computer Adaptive Testing. Other areas are also moving to this different method of testing. To adequately prepare your students for the NCLEX CAT test faculty need to understand this testing methodology. The information presented here is NOT commonly presented in ANY Test and Measurement course in either undergraduate or graduate nursing or education programs.

Purpose of this Workshop

This intense seminar is specifically designed to assist nursing faculty, educators and staff development personnel to understand the impact/changes that the NCLEX CAT has had on licensure of Nursing graduates. The seminar will focus on Item Response Theory and the Rasch Measurement model, the basis of the Computer Adaptive model. An in depth presentation of the testing procedures and ways to prepare graduates for the exam.

Who should attend?

You should participate in this workshop if you write multiple choice test questions for nursing students, nurses or other health professionals. Participants include deans, directors, faculty of schools of nursing, continuing education instructors, item writers and others involved in test construction.

Seminar Objectives

Describe Item Response Theory.
Identify three models of Item Response Theory.
Describe the components of the Rasch model.
Discuss the pros and cons of the NCLEX CAT.
Describe the possible effects of NCLEX CAT on students.
Describe ways to prepare the student for CAT.
Develop a test plan using the Nursing Process.
Develop a test using the properties for CAT.
Administer the ADC CAT Profile to determine a student's ability level.

Seminar Includes

Complete course workbook which includes: copies of the slides used with brief description of each, worksheets, samples, formulas, and a demo disk for the CAT Profile to use as a reference after the seminar.
